Watts, Quantum equivalency, Side leakage, and Power supplies
Yes these LEDs are not sinking 10 watts. However I do not believe that MPJA has any intent of deception. They are just quoting manufacturer specs. The manufacturer is likely stating quantum equivalency not power consumption. Just like if you buy a LED light bulb it will say uses 16 watts but is equivalent to a 60 watt tungsten. I have compared these LEDs to 3 watt 940nm star LEDs. With the Star LED at 3 watt forward power and the 32623 at 4.34 watts forward power...1 amp... the element of the 3 watt star appears 2 1/2 times as bright as the elements of the 32623. However the 32623 has nine times as many elements so total flux emitted is 9 x 0.4 or roughly 3.6 times the 3 watt star LED. Since the elements of the 32623 are operating at only 40% the intensity the element life increases by about ten times. Using the 32623 even at 10ma forward current causes bright spot on the ceiling as viewed by a 940nm sensitive camera. The 3 watt star causes nothing at 10ma. If stealth illumination is your goal you should use additional optics. Contrary to the specs the 32623 is very visible to the dark adapted eye at very low incidence angles...less than 5 deg. This off band side leakage is common in power LEDs. DO NOT GO STARING AT THESE LEDs... for any reason. You would not stare into a invisible CO2 laser beam would you? A great power supply to use with this LED is the 31562. With a little tweaking of the charge/full indicator pot you can cause it to show a blue LED if the 32623 is powered and a red LED if there is a fault

Not 10 Watts
Simple math says this unit cannot be 10 Watts. If the highest forward voltage is 6 Volts and the maximum current is 1 Amp then the power consumed is only 6 Watts. The optical power coming from the unit will be less than that, maybe 4 to 5 Watts.
